Dover Baseball Tagging Fundraiser

Frequently Asked Questions

1.  Why do we have this fundraiser?

Many of the fields that Dover Baseball utilizes are owned by the City of Dover.  However, the fields at Beckwith Park (off Hillside Drive) are owned by the Dover Baseball League.  The proceeds from the tagging fundraiser are used to pay the annual mortgage bill for this property.

2.  What is "tagging" and how do we do it?

Each player is given a collection can and a local business location.  Your player, and a partner, dressed in uniform, stand in front of the business and politely ask patrons for donations.  Parents must stay in the area to supervise.

3. Who participates in the tagging event?

Only players in the Small Minor (8's) and Cal Ripken Minor (9/10's) divisions participate in this fundraiser.

4.  When is the tagging scheduled?

The tagging is scheduled for Friday May 8 & Saturday May 9.   Each CR Minor player (9/10's) will fill one 2-hour shift per day for May 8 and 9.  Small Minor players (8's) will fill one 2-hour shift on May 9 only.

5.  What if I don't want my child to participate?

We offer a buyout option.  You may make a payment of $45 for each shift in which your child is asked to participate.  This is, on average, how much is earned during one 2 hour shift.

6.  When and how do I find out where to go?

Leading up to the event, teams will be assigned specific shifts.  You will get your shift information from your coach.  At the beginning of your shift, players will meet at Beckwith/Keays concession stand to receive their location assignment and can to collect donations.

7.  Can I choose with whom my player is paired up?

Yes.  It is helpful if your partner up with a friend or teammate in advance.  Parents might decide to take turns supervising the players.  If you do not have someone in advance, we will help you find a partner when you come to receive your assignment.

**Please note:  Our local Dover businesses are very generous in allowing us to tag in front of their locations.  Let's please make sure our players show respect for the business and their customers by acting with appropriate behavior at all times.
